FAQs

Good to know before you book:

Getting Started

Is Therapy for Black Women a group practice?
No โ€” it's a solo practice founded and run by Jerisha LaCrae Rutlin, M.Ed., LPC, LPCC, NCC. You'll work directly with her, not a rotating roster of clinicians.
How do I book a first appointment?
Use the Book an Appointment form to request a time. This sends a request only โ€” our office follows up by phone or email to confirm and send secure intake paperwork.
Do you offer virtual and in-person sessions?
Virtual (telehealth) sessions are available, along with in-person care at the San Diego, CA office. Let us know your preference when you request an appointment.

Insurance & Payment

What insurance do you accept?
In Missouri: United Healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, and cash pay. In California: United Healthcare, Aetna, and cash pay. See our full Insurance & Payment page for details.
How do I submit my insurance information?
Contact your insurer for your member ID, group number, plan name, and behavioral-health phone number, then share it with your therapist by email, fax, or a photo of your card. We'll confirm your benefits are verified before your first session.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the federal No Surprises Act, self-pay and uninsured clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of costs before scheduled services. If your final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you have the right to dispute it โ€” including through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services' process at cms.gov/nosurprises or 800-985-3059.

Policies

What is your cancellation policy?
Appointments canceled with less than 48 hours' notice may be subject to a missed-appointment fee equal to all or part of the scheduled service fee, unless we notify you in writing of a shorter window.
Can I submit health information through the contact or booking forms?
No โ€” please don't include confidential medical or mental-health information in the website's contact or booking forms. Sensitive information is collected only through our secure, HIPAA-appropriate systems, after we connect.

Safety

Is this website monitored for emergencies?
No. This website and its contact form are not monitored for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call 911, or call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
